The refrigerator
1. A clean refrigerator keeps its cool better than a dirty one. Pay great attention to properly cleaning the rubbers on the refrigerator door. Often due to their poor maintenance, they do not properly contact the refrigerator, resulting in cooling leakage and the refrigerator burning more energy to cool the food. Normally even a bill stuck to the fridge door shouldn't be easy to pull out if your fridge closes properly.
2. If your refrigerator catches ice, defrost it regularly. Ice build-up makes the refrigerator's processor work harder and use more energy, which wears it out faster. Be aware that no frost refrigerators burn more energy than conventional ones.
3. Do not allow dust to collect on the back of the refrigerator, which prevents it from working properly and consumes more energy.
The oven
1. The oven works best when the air circulates freely so make sure that there are no tinfoil residues on the oven racks. Also clean the inside of the oven door well so that it makes good contact and doesn't let hot air escape wasting energy.
2. Regularly clean the hotplates of your oven, whether they are ceramic or gas. Stained hobs absorb heat instead of transferring it to the dishes, thus wasting energy. A clean ceramic cooktop lights up instantly while the flame color in a clean gas cooktop is blue and not yellow.
The microwave oven
It is one of the least energy-consuming devices but even it loses efficiency when it is dirty. That's why it's good to remove stains from the remains of food that have been spilled inside it. They absorb microwaves and thus reduce the efficiency of the device. For best results it is advisable to clean the walls, the plate and the oven door.
The air conditioners
Air conditioner filters "clog" very easily, especially if you have pets. That is why they need regular cleaning, at least once a month and more regularly when in daily use. This is because the dirty filters prevent the proper passage of air, thus preventing the correct operation of the device.
